What is the difference between the Zimmer® compatible and BioHorizons® compatible connection and design?
Below you will see some of the differences between the Zimmer® compatible and BioHorizons® compatible components.
Screws
19° Zimmer® Compatible Screw | 45° BioHorizons® Compatible Screw |
The Zimmer® compatible screw is longer in length with a 19° seat. | The BioHorizons® is shorter in length with a 45° seat. |
Tibases
Zimmer® Compatible Straight Tibases
The 19° seating design has a distance from the seating of the screw to the implant which is longer than the BioHorizons® compatible tibase and the hex is 2.425mm.
BioHorizons® Compatible Straight Tibases
The 45° seating design has a distance from the seating of the screw to the implant which is shorter than the Zimmer® compatible tibase and the hex is 2.41mm. The area where the tibase connects to the implant is where platform switching occurs.
Analogs
Zimmer® Compatible Analog
Zimmer® compatible abutments (including the tibases) have a 1° tapered hex design.
Because of this design, when placing Zimmer® brand components into a non Zimmer® brand analog there will be a very "tight fit" and cold welding during lab procedures.
DESS created Zimmer® compatible analogs (SKU's 14.017, 14.018, and 14.019) to specifically avoid this "tight fit" and cold welding. The area circled above in orange demonstrates this design feature. Only use the Zimmer® compatible analogs listed above with Zimmer® brand components.
BioHorizons® Compatible Analog
BioHorizons® brand components and DESS BioHorizons® compatible analogs (SKU's 14.087, 14.088, and 14.089) do not have the bevel in the hex zone circled in orange above.
Only use DESS BioHorizons® compatible analogs with non-Zimmer® brand components, such as BioHorizons®, Implant Direct®, BSB®, etc., brands.
